BISHOP KOHR'S FUNERAL.
Funeral Services at the House and at the Meeting House at Landisville.
A father in Israel was quietly laid to rest to-day when the funeral of the lamented Bishop John Kohr took place, and his funeral obsequies closed all earthly knowledge of one who was a great and good man, much honored among his people, to whom he ministered for so many years. The funeral was largely attended, one of the largest ever held in the county, many people from this city, members of the Reformed Mennonite congregation, on German street, for whom he frequently preached, being present. The usual Mennonite services were held at the late home of the deceased on the Fruitviulle turnpike, and at the Reformed Mennonite church at Landisville beginning at the house at twelve o'clock and at the church at three o'clock. These consisted of Scripture readings and sermons, the principal services being held at the church, and the sermons preached by Rev. Elias Herr, of Buffalo, bishop of New York State, and Rev. Samuel Stoner, bishop of Chambersburg. The sermons were deeply interesting and closely listened to. Several local clergy of the Mennonite church were also present. The interment was made at Landisville church.

Portions of a letter from Howard Lehman, Parkin, Arkansas, to Ira D. Landis, Secretary, Lancaster Mennonite Conference Historical Society, December 29, 1972:

"An Immense Funeral
Bishop John Kohr, of Lancaster County, elected to the ministry of the Reformed Mennonite church in 1845, and to the bishopric in 1856, died last week at his home in Manheim Township and was buried on Wednesday. There were over four hundred carriages in the funeral procession and twelve hundred people were at house and ate dinner before services began. Among them were fifteen ministers: Bishop Eli Herr, of Williamsville, N.Y.; Rev. Abraham Kurtz, of Shoeneck, Lancaster County; Bishop Eli Hershey of Binkey's Bridge; Bishop John Mauk, of Osborne, Ohio; Rev.Emanuel Long, of Williamsville, N.Y.; Rev. Henry Weaver, of Strasburg; Rev. Charles Mowery, of Willow Street; Rev. Henry Fisher of Greenland; Rev. Levi Shenk, of Chickies; Rev. Martin Musser of Salunga; Rev. Abraham Long of Landisville; Rev. John Kohr of Manheim Township; Rev. Samuel Stoner of Franklin County;and Rev. Eli Yost of Cumberland County.
The services at the house were conducted by Rev. Abraham Kurtz and Bishop Herr, and at the Landisville Mennonite Church, where the interment was made, by Bishop Hershey and rev. Samuel Stoner. The pallbearers were Bishop Mauk, and Revs. Levi Shenk, Emanuel Long, Eli Yost, Martin Musser, and Abraham Kurtz."
