He was a member of "The Greatest Generation" having served in the United States Army 11th Airborne during World War II. He was the retired owner and operator of Chastain's Campers. His leaded glass masterpieces grace many homes in Anderson and the Upstate. He loved music and formerly served as choir director at Pope Drive Baptist Church for fourteen years and served as deacon for many years. He was currently a member of Concord Baptist Church and the Don Latham Sunday School class.
