OBITUARY, The Sioux City Journal, 7 December 2006:

Raymond E. Anfinson, 83, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Cushing, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Waverly Health Center. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, with the Rev. Keith Tomlinson officiating. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Cushing Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Ray was born June 12, 1923, the son of Howard B. and Goldie E. (Coon) Anfinson, in Cushing. He graduated from Cushing High School. On August 5, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mina Belle Huffman in Marysville, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. During his service time, he went to airplane and engine mechanic school in New York City. Following his discharge from the service, he began farming three and one half miles south of Cushing.

The couple then ran Ray's Clover Farm in Cushing for five years while continuing to farm. In 1971, he started his own carpenter business called Anfinson Builders in Cushing. He retired from the carpenter business in 1985.

In September 2005, the couple moved to Waverly to be near their son. He was a member of Cushing United Methodist Church and the Cushing American Legion. He loved to dance, but most especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Mina Belle of Waverly; children, Jerry (Monica) Anfinson of Morristown, Tennessee, Gregg (Cindy) Anfinson of Waverly and Kirk (Connie) Anfinson of Holstein, Iowa; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dolores Monfort of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Mark at age 4. Memorials may be left to a charity of the donor's choice.
