HOUSTON - Melvin Evans Gann, 75, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at his home in Houston. He was born April 6, 1931, in Houston to James Clarence Gann and Vannie Mae Criddle Gann. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed farmer and business owner. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Houston Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Fitts officiating. Burial will be in his property in Houston.

Survivors include his mother, Vannie Criddle Gann of Houston; two daughters, Melva Rose Gann of Memphis and Vannie Gann of Vardaman; one stepdaughter, Diane Melton of West Point; two sons, Melvin Gann Jr. and Jessie Gann, both of Houston; two sisters, Bonnie Wilkes of Huntsville, Ala., and Fay Hurt of Okolona; one brother, Mahlon Gann of Houston.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Pallbearers will be Casey Week, Dan Womack, John A. Porter, Pete Eaton, Joe Criddle and Jamie Criddle.

NOTE: This cemetery is located at the end of Melvin Gann's airplane runway, on his farm, on Pondarosa Road, south of Houston, MS, where he had requested to be buried. His is a lone grave.
