Eliza Gibson Head, wife of James Burr McLelland, while her actual date of birth is not known, her birth year has been estimated based on census records. Her Father William Woodward Head, Sr was living in Chester County, South Carolina during the year of her birth (to the best of our knowledge) so that county was most likely her place of birth. Her Mother was Susanna Gibson Harrison, sister to her husband's Mother; as such Eliza married her first cousin. Mother to eleven known children, Eliza came from (to the best of our knowledge) the Virginia "Head Family" line; her Grandparents being Richard Head and Sarah Newport of Virginia.

Eliza's sister was Sarah Newport Head who married William Ragsdale "Buck" Coleman. He had a chapter devoted to him in the Coleman Family Book written by former Gov. of Mississippi, J. P. Coleman. It gives interesting insight into life at that time and why the Buck Coleman family moved to Texas, where it seems the McLelland family followed in their footsteps after the War and settled in Brazos County. Some of the Coleman children had names from the Mclelland family, so I believe they were a close family.
