SALLY BRYSON was born near Dunn's Rock of Transylvania County, North Carolina on July 9, 1890 to Joseph Allen "Ally" Bryson and Nancy "Camie" Duckworth. She was one of twelve children born to Ally and Camie. On November 7, 1907, Sally married BRANCE THOMAS TINSLEY of Brevard. Brance was the son of Samuel Jefferson Tinsley and Cordelia Rebecca Guest and was born on September 20, 1884.

SALLY and BRANCE's children were Van Richard, Joseph J. and James Robert (the well-known "Jim Bob" Tinsley, author and country singer).
