Charles W. Althouse, Sr., 82, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Arlene M. (Weik) Althouse, who died March 10, 2003. Born in Mt. Zion, on August 26, 1927, he was the son of the late William and Edna (Hoover) Althouse. He had been a bricklayer for Ray Long, Denver, for 25 years. He then worked at AWI, Robesonia, for 17 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Lebanon Church of the Brethren, where he served on the maintenance committee of the church for many years. He was a past president of the Mt. Zion Fire Co. He volunteered for many years for Operation Santa Claus, and enjoyed playing pinochle, gardening, and going to breakfast "with the boys." He is survived by sons, Charles, Jr., husband of Cora Althouse of Myerstown, and Gary, Sr., husband of Debbra Althouse of Richland; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; companion, Pat Kleinfelter of Annville; sisters, Florence Vituszynski of Avon, Ruth, wife of Clifford Ainsworth of Lebanon, Grace Daub of Jonestown, and Marie Graham of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Cook; and brothers, Robert and Gene Althouse. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am. from Lebanon Church of the Brethren, Lebanon. Viewing Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment at Grand View Memorial Park, Annville.
