Lucinda, daughter of John and Miley Gregory, was born at English, Indiana, May 23, 1844, and departed this life August 27th, 1927, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willis Hoag, at Kirwin, Kansas, aged 82 years, 11 months and 4 days.

While yet a young woman and before leaving Indiana, she was converted and joined the United Brethren Church and was a faithful member when death claimed her. In June 1863 she was married to John B. Brown who died in October 1890 at St. Francis, Kansas. To this union eight children were born:
Elizabeth Patton of Waynoka, Oklahoma
Andy Brown of Oakley, Kansas
Mollie Wilson of Kansas city, Missouri
Artemesia Hoag of Kirwin, Kansas
They are left to mourn the departure of a good mother.

Those gone on before are Levesca Brown who died in infancy; John Brown at Jaqua, Kansas in 1911, Zora Martin at Muscotah, Kansas in 1920: Lottie Happel at Effingham, Kansas in 1926. Mrs. Brown has 26 living grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.

The latter years of her life she spent visiting around among her children until her gradually failing health made travelling impossible. For the last few years she has lived at the home of her daughter at Kirwin where she passed away.

Mrs. Brown was one of the pioneers of northwest Kansas. She had borne her share of the burden of conquering these prairies. She had labored through the heat of the day and was not called away.

She was ever loving, patient and gentle to those about her. Her work finished, death came as a release from the weakness and pain of this life.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. O. N. Wiles of the Methodist Church on Friday afternoon, April 29, 1927. A quartette composed of Mesdames C. M. Alspach, M. L. Powell, Marion Klontz and Roy Clarke, accompanied by Miss Bertha Stuckman, sang, "Rock of Ages", "Yes, Coming Home", and "Abide With Me", favorite songs of Mrs. Brown.

The pallbearers were: Mr. Collins, Mr. C. R. Jackson, Mr. A. M. Campbell, Mr. T. J. Atchison, Mr. C. N. Gray and Mr. John Garrett.
