"Mr. Askey"

"Funeral services for Jess R. Askey, 79, of San Saba were held Friday morning at Sheppard Chapel of Memories with Dr. John Davenport of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed in High Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Askey died Wednesday at his residence.

Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Gonzales, he married Jeanette French on June 2, 1940, in Hico. He was retired from the Department of Public Safety's highway patrol. Mr. Askey was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, a Mason and a member of the American Legion and the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of San Saba; one daughter, Ann Lehrer of Cherokee; two sisters, Frances Young of Austin and Edna Vackar of Gonzales; and one granddaughter, Tracy Phillips of Rio Media.

Pallbearers were Odean Ray, C.A. Harkey, Riley Harkey, John R. McRorey, Norris McCarty, Ken Thomas, Snuffy Smith and Max Mahan.

The family requests memorials be made to the Firt Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
