J.E. HEMPFLING IS DEAD

John Eugene (Jack) Hempfling, 64, a retired building contractor, died yesterday at the home, 3301 Prospect avenue. He had been ill since November.
Mr. Hempfling, a native of Westphalia, Kas., had been a resident of Kansas City more than fifty years. He formerly was associated with two brothers, James J. Hempfling, 4245 Tracy avenue, and Joseph M. Hempfling, Long Beach, Calif., in the Hempfling Investment company, a holding firm, and the Hempfling Construction company. The two companies and the partnership was dissolved prior to World War II.
During the 30-year partnership, the brothers were contractors on the construction of duplexes in the Country Club Plaza district, in the area adjoining Oak street and Meyer boulevard, and north and south of the Northeast high school on Van Brunt boulevard. They had constructed apartment buildings and duplexes in Tulsa also.
In World War II, Mr. Hempfling was a construction superintendent at the Lake City ordance works and the Sunflower ordance works. He retired about six years ago. He was a member of the Elmwood lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of local No. 61 of the Carpenters union.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Agnes Patricia Van Gordon, 806 East Eleventh street; two sons, Harry H. Hempfling of the home and Harvey B. Hempfling, 5809 St. John avenue, and two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Fulks, Pawhuska, Ok., and Sister Loretta M. Hempfling, San Antonio, Tex.
Services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Thursday at the Newcomer chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
