Harry H. Hempfling, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri, died January 16, 2003, at the home of his brother in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Mr. Hempfling was born January 19, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of American Legion Post #499, and a member of Laborer's Union Local #663. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He has worked at Mid-West Precoat, Tobin Construction, Bowen Construction and Meierhoff Antique Stained Glass. His hobbies were movies, actors and actresses. He collected books, tapes and magazines related to the entertainment industry. He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He walked 10 miles per day before his illness. He did not own a car and did not like to drive. He was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes P. Watts. Survivors are brother and sister-in-law, Harvey & Lura Hempfling of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, six nephews and two nieces. He is also survived by his good friend Fred Stempson, who helped care for him in his final illness. Cause of death was fibrosis of the lung.
