Mr. Hempfling's parents were John E. and Agnes Huff Hempfling. He had two siblings, Harry H. Hempfling and Agnes P. Hempfling Watts, both of whom preceded him in death. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived there until 1973 when he moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He married Lura Bouyear on January 18, 1948 in Jackson County, Missouri. He served in the Navy during World War II and later in the Seabee Reserves. He was a master plumber and owned Hempfling Plumbing and Heating in the 1960's. In later years and prior to retirement he worked as a plumber with Plumber's Local #8. As a Navy veteran he was a lifetime member receiving military honors from the American Legion Post #499 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8220. He attended the Strasburg Baptist Church and oversaw all the plumbing work in the new church. Reverend Preston Sanders of the church oversaw his funeral services. Casket bearers were Steve Harvey, Bob Harvey, Mike Harvey, Greg Harvey, Chris B. Maenza, Salvatore Maenza, Joseph Hempfling and Michael Hempfling (All grandsons). He is survived by his wife, Lura Hempfling, sons, Mike Hempfling of St. Louis and John Hempfling of Lee's Summit, daughters, Patricia Harvey of Overland Park, Leslie Cobb of Gladstone, his mother-in-law, Bertha Bouyear, seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
