Abert Barnes, 80, farmer of Mendenhall, died Monday, January 20, 1997 of heart failure at Mississippi State Hospital in Rankin County.
Services were 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 1997 at Mims Mitchell Chapel Funeral Home in Magee with burial in Goodwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee. Mims Mitchell Funeral Home of Magee handled the arrangements.

Mr. Barnes was a native of Simpson County, a member of Goodwater Baptist Church, Oak Hill Lodge 553 of Magee. He was married to his lovely wife Beatrice for 56 years.

Survivors include wife: Beatrice Barnes - Mendenhall; 2 sons: Gerald Barnes and Donald Barnes - both of Ocean Springs; 1 daughter: Kathryn Yelverton - Magee; 3 brothers: Ray Barnes - Gulfport, Lavell Barnes - Mendenhall, Robert Barnes - Byram; 2 sisters: Mildred Walker - Hattiesburg, Nannie Mae Barnes - Pelahatchie; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
