William Emmett Davis
William Emmett Davis, son of David Davis,Sr. & Hester Hart Davis, was born in Noble County, Ohio on October 16, 1830.
He was married to Sarah Lazear on December 2, 1852 in Ohio. In 1855 they emigrated to Henry County, Illinois.
Enlisting in company D of 31st Illinois Infantry in Sept 28, 1864 during the Civil War, he saw service at Atlanta, Georgia;and marched with Sherman to Savannah, Georgia. He was at the siege and capture of Fort McAllister there, and marched through the states of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia with General Sherman. He was at the surrender of General Johnston, and received his discharge at Washington,DC on May 31, 1865.
Mr. Davis returned to Clover in Henry county, Illinois where he farmed until 1887. At that date he moved to Galva in Henry county, Illinois. In 1888 he moved with the rest of his family to Johnson county, Nebraska where he resided the rest of his life.
Mr. Davis passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ollie Armstead, near Diller, Nebraska on December 25, 1916. He was the father of eight children, five of them dying in infancy. He is buried in Grandview Cemetery, Johnson county, Nebraska.
He is survived by children: William Albert Davis of Auburn, Neb; Mrs. Ollie E. Armstead of Auburn, Neb; and Mrs. Ida Osgood of Tecumseh, Neb.
