Robert Douglass Gage was an attorney, a judge and a senator in 1895 Texas. He was born in Port Gibson, Mississippi in 1860.His father was James Alexander Gage, born 1812 in S.C.His father came to port gibson ,Ms. on bussiness in 1830 . He fell in love and stayed ,building Gage House a large manor house across from the Presbyterian Church.His mother Rosanna Russell died when he was 3 years old. He had 3 sisters ,3 brothers . He graduated from the University of Mississippi, moved to Pecos, Texas 1883. studied law under Judge Vertner. and married Lena Van Horn 1886. He was very successful and helped form Midland & Ward Counties. They had 4 children. Family story says he was acquainted with and practiced law under Judge Roy Bean. In 1918 he moved back to Port Gibson, as all his siblings were dead, and he inherited the family home there. He bought controlling stock in the Port Gibson National Bank , which is one of the few to survive the great depression. Today it is called River Hills Bank. In 1920 his wife Lena passed away and in 1922 he married Roberta Person, a distant cousin He passed from this life 1953. Still called Judge Gage, he walked to the bank almost every day a few blocks from his beautiful historic "Gage House". His four children left eight grand children and many more great grandchildren. He is buried with all the Mississippi Gages, who came over from County Antrim, Ireland in 1780, starting with James Gage and his Brothers Matthew and Old John Gage.
