Daughter of Nicholas VanHorn - Elizabeth Blount. Lena Van Horn was born 1865 in Indiana to Nicholas Van Horn . she met Robert Douglas Gage an attorney when he came to read law under Judge Vertner in Pecos Texas . He later became a judge and texas senator in 1895.they had 4 children Mary Anna , James Vertner, Robert Douglass II and Lena Lucile . They moved back to Roberts home in Port Gibson,Ms.after his father died. As all his siblings had already passed ,he inherited the antebellum family home built in 1837 called Gage House.it is a large home across from the Presbyterian church with the gold hand pointing to heaven. Robert Sr.bought the controlling interest in the local bank 1918 . The home still stands as a welcome center for civil war history buffs . the Port Gibson Bank is still retained by the family as River Hills bank. She had 10 surviving grandchildren and many great grands (of which this writer is one) she passed away in 1920,in fort worth where she went for her youngest son Robert D Gage II ,wedding.she died at her Uncle Vans house . (per death cert. of diabetic acidosis )Greatly missed by all her descendants . Love you great grandma, Wish I had Known you .I Read your letters to Grand Dads big sister sweet Carrie,in 1910 after her husband Samuel Marshall Spencer died., sweet angel lady ,Rest in Peace
