In 1860, the Hart family moved to Syracuse, Mill Creek Township, Morgan Co., MO. He is listed in the 1960 census as age 30. Two years later, Daniel Hart enlisted in the 129th Illinois Infantry, Co. F on 13 Aug 1862 at Exeter, Scott Co., IL. His enlistment records list his birth as 1824 in Caledonia Co., VT. He was captured by Confederate soldiers between Rutledge and Madison, Georgia on 19 November 1864. According to the obituary of his daughter, Mary A. Hart Eby, Daniel Hart was held as a prisoner of war in Andersonville Prison. He was paroled at North East Ferry, NC on 27 Feb 1865, five days after the Union captured Wilmington. Daniel Hart died of camp fever (typhus) on or about 10 March 1865 in the U. S. General Hospital in Wilmington, NC.
