The Dalles Weekly Reminder, August 7, 1987

Viola M. McGinnis, 80, died in a Portland hospital July 28 after an automobile accident. She was a resident of Milwaukie for the past 10 years, but lived in Wasco County for much of her life.

Mrs. McGinnis was born June 17, 1907 in Maupin. She attended grade school in Boyd and graduated from high school in Dufur. In 1923, she married Huston Johnson and they had two children. She later married Gordon Albert McGinnis, and they lived in Wamic and Tygh Valley where she operated the Tygh Valley switchboard. They moved to The Dalles in 1936 and lived there until 1940.

She is survived by one daughter, Eula Murray of Pine Hollow; a son Eugene Johnson of Sandy; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Nichols and Rose Underhill of Portland and Waive Schreiber of Dallesport.

Graveside memorial services were held at Parklawn Cemetery officiated by Rev. Dan Elam.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
