On Monday evening April 21, 1890, between the hours of seven and eight o'clock, our citizens were startled by the report that Dr. B E. Vannatta had just died at his home in this city, of paralysis of the heart.
Benjamin E Vannatta was born at Highgate Canada, September 16, 1812 and was therefore aged 77 years, 7 months and 5 days at the time of his death. When a young man having first graduated from Cleveland medical college, he located at Attica, O., for the practice of his profession, in which he was highly successful. In 1841, he was married to Rachel L. McCart of Willoughby, O. Three children were the fruit of this marriage -- Mrs. Armida Goodwin of Mallory, Minn., Mrs. Josephine Tuttle of Minneapolis, Minn. and Wellington Vannatta of River Falls Wis. His wife having died he was again married in 1851 to Eliza Ellis of Attica O., by whom he also had three children - Mrs. Evelyn Cograve and Mrs. Nellie Adams of St. Paul, Minn. and Wellesley Vannatta of River Falls Wis. Impaired health compelled him in 1855 to abandon the practice of his profession and he came west settling in this city. With the exception of a two years residence in Prescott, he has since resided here and upon a farm in the town of Troy, engaging in agricultural pursuits. Funeral Services are held at the residence, conducted by Rev. J. D. Rumsey of the Baptist church, all of the children of the deceased being in attendance. The Masonic fraternity escorted the remains to their resting place in Greenwood Cemetery and performed the burial service. River Falls Journal 4-24-1890

Note: Benjamin was married to Rachael L McCart on Nov 9, 1843 in Richland, Ohio and to Eliza Ellis on March 30, 1855 in Seneca, Ohio.
