Jesse was a farmer. The weeping willow tree that covers the top of their stone commonly symbolize "both mourning for the loss of earthly life and the joy of celestial life." He was a devout Presbyterian and good father. Jesse built a home in Stevensville which he later donated as the manse for the Stevensville Presbyterian Church.
