Mariano Vived was the fourth child born to Lorenzo Vived (from Farlete, Aragon, Spain) and Tomasa Callen (from Lanaja, Aragon, Spain) on Sept. 18, 1852 in Farlete, Aragon, Spain. Not much is known of Mariano's early years.

Circa 1873, Mariano married Gregoria Julian, of Alfajarin, Aragon, Spain.

Mariano supported his family in Spain by contracting with the Spanish Military to provide hay and straw for the cavalry in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. However, Mariano did not have enough wagons to deliver all the hay and straw needed to supply the cavalry, so he contracted with an acquaintance, Angel Vidal, who had wagons that Mariano could use. (Mariano's son Jose later wed Angel Vidal's daughter Agustina.)

Meanwhile, in 1909, Mariano's nephew, Francisco, and a friend traveled from Spain to America, eventually arriving in Fresno, CA. Francisco sent for his father, Jose, who was a widower. Jose came to Fresno in 1910, and after he was settled, he wrote to his brother, Mariano, and told him of the abundance of work in CA.

In 1911, Mariano, age 58, and two of his sons, Jose and Braulio, left Zaragoza by train for Bordeaux, France. In France, they boarded the S/S New York and arrived in the Port of New York on Thursday, Nov. 09, 1911. They traveled across country by train to the Hotel de Espana in San Francisco, CA, which was managed by Mr. Palacios, a maternal uncle of Mariano's brother (it was the custom in those days to name a sponsor in order to immigrate to America). From San Francisco, they traveled to Fresno to join Mariano's brother Jose and nephew Francisco. They quickly gained employment at the Miller and Lux Ranch in Mendota, CA where they worked for nearly a year to earn enough money to send for the rest of the family.

In 1912, Mariano's wife, Gregoria, and their sons, Gerardo and Mariano, along with their son Jose's wife, Agustina and her two daughters, Teresa and Tomasa, left Zaragoza, sailed from Barcelona on the S/S Buenos Aires, and arrived in New York Harbor on Monday, Nov. 11, 1912. (The ships manifest indicates they were traveling to Fresno to join Mariano, who was then employed at the Gelan Ranch in Fresno.)

As soon as they were able, Mariano and his sons Jose, Braulio and Marion, purchased some cattle and started a dairy operation in the Kerman area, at the west end of Shaw Avenue in Fresno County. They eventually relocated to southeastern Madera County. Mariano lived the remainder of his life in Madera and Fresno Counties.

(In 1919, Jose and Francisco purchased property in the Fresno area, but later sold it and returned to Spain in 1925.)

Mariano had two older brothers: Cerilo, who had two daughters and a son; Jose, who married Eulalia Palacios on March 22, 1884, and had a son Francisco; and an older sister: Juana Vived, who married Mariano's brother-in-law Eusevio Julian, and had four children: Angel, Sarturnino, Felisa and Agustin Vived. Felisa married Antonio Perez, and they had two children: Carmen and Benita Perez. All of whom either remained in Spain or returned to Spain, and little more is known of them.

Mariano died on July 07, 1930, Interment: July 10, 1930 in Fresno, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo Vived and Tomasa Callen Vived, daughter Dionisia Vived of Alfajarin, Spain in 1887; son Angel Vived of Zaragoza, Spain in 1908; daughter Victoria Vived of Zaragoza, Spain in 1910; and daughter Mariana Vived Torres of Aragon, Spain in 1912.

He was survived by his wife Gregoria Julian Vived of Fresno, sons Jose and Braulio of Madera, son Marion Vived of Fresno, California, son Gerardo Vived of Elko Nevada, many grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
