ENGLAND, Sgt. Birch, 29, killed in action in Germany Jan. 22, 1945 while serving with Company "A", 302nd Infantry, 94th Division. His body will arrive in Knoxville at 2 p.m. Friday and will be taken to the home of his mother in Maryville. Funeral services 3 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter's Camp Grounds, with interment in church cemetery.

Survivors: mother, Mrs. Zadie L. England; two brothers, Denest and Lakes; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Whitmore and Mrs. Bessie Garrett, all of Maryville. VFW Post 5154 in charge of grave services.

Birch England actually died of wounds in a Luxembourg hospital. His death death on his tombstone is incorrect. He actually died in 1945 and laid to rest 3 years later, in 1948.
