WHITMORE, Grady C., 80 , of Fairview Boulevard, Maryville, died Tuesday evening at Blount Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Vonore Masonic Lodge. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was retired from ALCOA and a member of the company's 25-Year Club. He was a member of Civilian Conservation Corps in Tremont for three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ivan Shaffer.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth England Whitmore; daughter and son-in-law, Leola and Robert Garland of Jonesboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Alva Whitmore of Lenoir City, Xeno and Opal Whitmore of Knoxville; twin sons and daughters-in-law David and Joana Whitmore of Maryville, Glenn and Barbara Whitmore of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dora Mae Sizler of Seattle, Wash., Mildred Word of Maryville; brothers, Wilson Shaffer, Vernal Shaffer, both of Madisonville, John Shaffer of Maryville; several nieces of nephews.
Funeral 8 p.m. today, Miller Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Jerry Russell and Dr. Marvin Gass officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Friday at Carpenters United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family to receive friends 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
