BURBANK, Calif. - Former Brady area resident Raya L. Markson, 93, a longtime resident of Burbank, Calif., died of pancreatic cancer Monday at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Survivors include an older sister and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eda Martin, Mary Molinario and Olga Obradovic; and brothers Matt, Sam, Jim, Nick, Mike, Bill, Maurice and George Montgomery.
Raya was born Aug. 25, 1912, in the Crimea area of Russia, to parents Gregori and Duna Letz. In 1913, along with her parents and siblings, she immigrated to the United States and settled on a homestead near Brady.
She grew up in Montana and moved to California as a young lady. There she enjoyed working as a secretary in the motion picture industry, and later had her own fashion design business. She also wrote a column for a local newspaper, under the name "Miss Gregory of Hollywood."
She and Ben Markson, a screenwriter, were married in San Diego, Calif., in 1947, and truly loved each other until his death in 1971.
