Green Travis Haislip was born March 3, 1863, son of Green Austin Haislip and Sarah Elizabeth Wakefield. On February 27, 1884, he married Louisa Ann Couser, daughter of James K. Polk Couser and Elizabeth Ann Russell. After the death of John Haislip, Travis' brother, he bought his brother's small farm in Haislip Hollow from the other brothers and sisters and reared his family there. All the children were born in the cabin. The family was musical, and they had a pump organ. Grandpa Haislip played the fiddle, and other family members played other instruments, including the mandolin. They also enjoyed listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the old RCA Victor radio. Lou died December 10, 1910, of pneumonia, and was buried at Caruthers-Duckworth Cemetery, Marshall County.
