Oiler Rogers City Michigan died on the Carl D. BradleyOn 18 May 1958 the freighter Carl D. Bradley went down off of Gull Island in Lake Michigan. The ship broke in two while riding 30 foot waves and enduring 65 mile per hour winds. With a crew of 35, all but two were lost. Claude Enos of Cheboygan was among those who perished that day, as were John Bauers and Floyd McDougall, both of Rogers City, but were also former Cheboyganites. The two that did survive were found floating upon a raft some fourteen hours after the sinking. Most of the sailors were from Rogers City, and upon the sinking of the Bradley, 53 children lost their fathers. A life preserver from the Bradley is on display at the Cheboygan County Historical Museum.
