John Hein, who for nearly half a century has been a resident of this village, passed away at his home early Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, 1935, and is at peace, fortified against the pain and suffering that was his to experience during the past few years of his prolonged illness.

His age was 71 years, 10 months and 27 days. John Hein was born in the town of Portland, Dodge county, March 29, 1863. He was reared in the town of Deerfield, whither his parents moved during his childhood. He was united in marriage with Augusta Gottschalk March 17, 1886, and after a residence of about a year in Deerfield, moved to this village which has since been their home.
 Nine children blessed their union all of whom are living. They are (Ella) Mrs. Wm. Taylor, Madison; (Ada) Mrs. Louis Bronte, Cottage Grove; (Isabel) Mrs. Howard Hoffman, Bokelia, FL, Miss Olive, at home; Frank Hein, Sun Prairie; Herbert, at Edgerton; George at Madison; and Ervin and Paul Hein, Sun Prairie. During his early and active years, and before the advent of the auto, he plied his trade of wagon maker. Later he became interested in road construction, and for about 18 years served this village as street commissioner. He was also associated with his brother, August, in the sorghum mill, which has served this community for several years. He was also a member of the fire department for many years and also of the M. W. A.

He is survived by his wife and nine children; also one brother, August Hein, Sun Prairie, and one sister, Mrs. Chas. Albright, Waseca, Minn..

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Krebs Funeral Home, and at 2:00 o'clock at the First M. E. Church, Rev. George Ruff, pastor of the German M. E. Church officiating. Rev. Wm. Wagner, former pastor here, gave the sermon. Interment was in the family lot in the village cemetery. Members of the local fire department attended in a body.
