CHILDS, LEWIS PATRICK "GEORGE" - age 58 of Stewartville, Alabama died Saturday, October 27, 2007. George was born on September 20, 1949 in Harriman, Tennessee, to the late Marvin P. and Myra E. Childs. He graduated from Union Hill High School, Somerville, Alabama. After serving as a medic in the U.S. Navy for 12 years, George was employed by the U.S. Government for 18 years. He was then called into the Church of God ministry, and faithfully served as the pastor of Stewartville, Alabama Church of God. George is a member of the Church of God. George touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths he crossed with his exuberant cheery personality. He never met a stranger. He was a superb husband, perfect daddy and the greatest pa-pa. He had a special love for young people. He gave his all in everything. He would do anything for anyone. And we have to mention his passion for Alabama football. ROLL TIDE ROLL !!! He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Myra Childs, one sister Peggy Worley and one granddaughter, Lolanda Jacalyn Wilcoxon. He leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Lolanda R. Childs; two daughters, Larissa T. Hitt and husband Carl L. Hitt, Jr. of Manassas, Virginia and Lori D. Wilcoxon and husband Todd L. Wilcoxon of Catlett, Virginia; eight "perfect" grandchildren, Carl Hitt III, Jessica Hitt, Amber Wilcoxon, Eric Hitt, Derrick Wilcoxon, Tara Hitt, Luke Wilcoxon and Kyle Wilcoxon; one brother Jerry Childs, and four sisters, Jeepie Driskill, Joyce Ingram, Helen Jo Carr, and Debbie Scarbrough. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 P.M. Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the Manassas Church of God, 8823 Rixlew Lane, Manassas. Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 2, 2007 at Foxchase Manor, 8310 Chatsworth Drive, Manassas with Pastor John L. Wilcoxon presiding. Pallbearers will be Carl Hitt, Jr., Todd Wilcoxon, Carl Hitt III, Michael Carr, Jeff Brock, Don Wyant, Carl Crouch and Kendall McConatha and honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Childs, Eric Hitt and Derrick Wilcoxon. Interment followed at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia. Condolences may be sent to www.piercefh.com.
