Sophia Louise Maggie Miles was born May 22, 1912 in Amherst, to Carl and Katie Rademacher Oltjenbruns. She died December 22, 2002. As a child she was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Amherst.

Sophia married Melvern Miles on May 18, 1932 in Grant, Nebraska. They resided in the Amtie area for the first couple of years of their marriage and later moved to the Amherst area until they moved to Holyoke. The couple also lived in the Denver area for a short period of time before returning to Holyoke.

After a few years they moved to Haxtun where she resided until she moved to an Assisted Living home in Denver. She had lived in Lake Havasu City, Arizona during the winter months for several years.

Sophia belonged to several clubs including Rebekka's, Royal Neighbors and Bi-Tri Federated club and Methodist women's group.

She loved embroidery, crafts, gardening and playing cards. Her family was the most important part of her life and she enjoyed visiting with them and having them around her.

Preceding her in death was her husband in 1986, her parents, a brother and a sister.

Surviving her are her children, Maxine Thomas of Tempe, Arizona; Virginia Miles of Denver; Shirley Thompson and husband Bob of Holyoke and Marlin Miles and wife LouAnn of Denver; grandsons, Mark Rush of Denver; Marshall Thompson of Holyoke and Tony Thompson of Windsor; granddaughters, Tammy Goorman of Aurora and Stephanie Miles of Los Angelos, California; three step grandchildren, Greg Thomas, Terry Jones and Suzanne Prine; 17 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Sophia Louise Maggie Miles were conducted Saturday, December 28, 2002 at the Haxtun United Methodist Church in Haxtun with Reverend Keith Hudiburgh officiating. Interment was made in the Haxtun Cemetery.
