The daughter of C. S. and Caroline Washburn, Mrs. Elder was born in Douglass December 8, 1884. She was a life-long resident of Douglass and attented the Douglass schools graduating with the class of 1902. January 23,1910 she was united in marriage to William Elmer Elder. They lived on a farm north of Douglass until moving to town in March of 1943. Her husband preceded her in death February 8, 1961. Three years ago she moved to the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita where she died Saturday evening after suffering a stoke Friday morning.
Mrs. Elder is survived by three sons, Warren and Paul, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Francis, Douglass; two daughters, Mrs. Asa L. (Doris) Cox, Belle Plaine;
Mrs. Ted (Carol) Compton;, Winfield; Six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mrs. Elder was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church. A recent check of the local membership showed that she had been a member for 77 years--the longest continuous membership of the local church.
A member of Woodbine Chapter No. 95 of the Order of Eastern Star, she was presented her 50 year pin last fall.
At the services Mrs. C. A. Off played as organ solos, "Beyond The Sunset" and "Abide With Me".
Bearers were David Whitney, Harry Robinson, Larry Jones, John R. Jones, George Stafford, and Lloyd Smith.
Interment in Douglass Cemetery.
