A native of Badger, Iowa, Mr. Hovey was born the son of Albert Hovey and Elizabeth Kallen Hovey.
He was married to Mabel Skien on April 14, 1915.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church.
Mr. Hovey came to Olney from Ft. Dodge, Iowa, in 1921 and became associated with the International Shoe Company. He was the first Lasting Room foreman of the Olney plant. When the company opened a plant in Searcy, Arkansas, he was one of the organizers of the plant and served as its first Superintendent. He then became superintendent of the Evansville, Illinois plant, a position he held for eight years until his retirement. His service with the company totaled 41 years.
He leaves his wife, Mabel S. Hovey; and five children: Mrs. Arlene Flick of Olney, Mrs. Carl (Pauline) Chaplin of Lexington, Ky., Mrs. Jack (Mary) Chaplin of Winter Haven, Fla., Cyril J. Hovey, Jr., of Olney, and Mrs. William (Carolyn) McClure of East Moline. There are 16 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters: Raymond Hovey of Hawthorne, Cal., Al Hovey of Harrison, Ark., Miss Blanche Hovey and Mrs. Wendell (Christy) Elfstrom both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney with Pastor Glenn Leaf officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Summers-Rainey Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at the church Tuesday.
