Bernice R. Hagene, age 88, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012 at 3:35 a.m. in Pinckneyville Community Hospital, Pinckneyville, IL.

Bernice was born on October 1, 1923 in Rice, IL, a daughter to William J. and Rosa (Ritter) Kellerman. On August 12, 1941, she married Louis J. Hagene in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Todds Mill, IL and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1990. Bernice was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, Catholic Daughters, St. Bruno quilting ladies, was a cook at St. Bruno School for 25 years and worked as a nurses aid at Perry Manor Health Care, Pinckneyville, IL for 20 years. Bernice enjoyed sewing, canning and cooking and dearly loved spending time with her family.

Bernice is survived by seven sons, Louis (Veronica) Hagene of Cuba, MO, Tom (Edie) Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL, Carl (Shirley) Hagene of Oakdale, IL, Larry (Marcia) Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL, Maurice (Glenda) Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL, Tony Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL, and Vincent (Lynette) Hagene of Pinckneyville, IL; ten daughters, Marie McDonald of Dupo, IL, Marcella Bruns of Pinckneyville, IL, Cecilia Day (special friend, Robert Baker) of Pinckneyville, IL, Diane (Doug) Yocom of House Springs, MO, Rita (Michael) Harriss of DuQuoin, IL, Elaine (Terry) Heern of Carbondale, IL, Annette (Don) Hart of Dahlgren, IL, Nora (Douglas) Neal of Pinckneyville, IL, Denise(Ray Allen) Bathon of DuQuoin, IL, and Laura (Ron) Porter of DuQuoin, IL; thirty nine grandchildren; fifty four great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbert Kellerman of Addieville, IL, Floyd Kellerman of Tamaroa, IL, and Harold Kellerman of Pinckneyville, IL; and many dear nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis J. Hagene; one son Richard Hagene; one daughter, Glenda Hagene in infancy; and four brothers, Alfred Kellerman, Carl Kellerman, Cecil Kellerman, and Rudolph Kellerman; one sister, Marcella Krisby; two son-in-laws, Hugh McDonald and Bernard Bruns.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako and Father Gene Wojcik officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
