James Albert Peterson, 89, Boise, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at a local care facility of natural causes.

Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and eternal companion James Albert Peterson passed away on January 7, 2009.
Jim was born May 9, 1919, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, the third of eight children born to Cyrus and Ella May Neuschwanger Peterson. He spent most of his boyhood on a farm 20 miles east of Denver near Bennett, Colorado.

In 1941, Jim met the love of his life, Lovella Lydia Freeman of Idaho Falls. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 28, 1942. Shortly thereafter, Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served for three years in the European theater during World War II. Upon return to civilian life, Jim and his young family moved to Salt Lake City where he attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah; later he would earn a Masters Degree in education from Idaho State College (University). With degree in hand, Jim commenced a teaching and school administration career that spanned 32 years of dedicated service to the children and public schools of Idaho Falls and the surrounding communities. He retired in 1981. Since retirement, Jim and Lovella took many cross-country trips to visit family, attend reunions, and do family history research. Family has always meant everything to Jim and through time he was able to amass a large collection of biographies and records that have formed a treasury of memories for his children and grandchildren.

Jim will always be remembered as a loving, caring father and husband who put family first and foremost in his life. His lasting legacy will be remembered by a simple phrase, "We must be one". This loving phrase will forever be immortalized in the many volumes of family history books he leaves behind.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Geneva Hoover and Esther Krout. He is survived by his wife of 66 timeless years, Lovella; 6 children: Patricia (Bryce) Stapley, Ronald Peterson, Douglas (Karen) Peterson, Bradford Peterson, Rebecca Guillemette, and Mark (Terri) Peterson; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind 4 brothers, Loyal, Orville, Elvin, and Cleo; and a younger sister, Mrs. Ella Mae Butts.

The family wishes to thank all those at Bon Adventure Place and Care First Hospice for all their loving attention and care for Jim.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel with Bishop Dellas G. Frederiksen conducting. A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Morris Hill Cemetery. Arrangements will be under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel.
