Wallace, born in Iowa, came with his parents to Montana when he was three years old. They located in Hamilton in 1895. His father was president and co-founder of the Ravalli County Bank.
Wallace was one of three members of the first graduating class of Hamilton in 1901 and five years later he graduated from the Armour's School of Technology at Chicago. He served 21 months in France during World War I, first with the French ambulance service and later with the US ambulance service after the US entered the war. Wallace returned to active duty after being gassed and was on the firing line when the armistice was signed.
Following his return from overseas be worked at the Ravalli County Bank and in 1919 was named president. He was active in the community, being a member of the Lions Club, the director of the Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Masonic order.
Wallace died at his home in Hamilton following a illness of one year. His death was attributed to a pulmonary condition developing from the gas poison from service in the war. A lung was removed in an effort to improve his health. Wallace died at the age of 57 years and was survived by his wife, Frances V McCrackin.
