Died in the 1918 flu epidemic.

The local paper, The Ravalli Republican, published her obituary in April 1918:

Helen McCrackin is Called by Death Angel
Funeral of distinguished Hamilton Lady to be held Friday at 2 pm.

Miss Helen McCrackin died Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock following a brief illness of bronchial pneumonia. The funeral will be held from the family residence, corner of Fifth and Madison, Friday at 2 pm. The service will be conducted by Rev. J. C. Irwin. The pall bearers will be Judge R. Lee McCullough, Senator Frank Cone, Mayor J. E. Totman, McHenry Grafton. F. V. Hoagland and E. A. Griffith.

Mrs. McCrackin will arrive in Missoula this evening and will be met by Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Read, who will probably bring her to Hamilton this evening by automobile. Mrs. C. W. Spar, a niece of Mrs. McCrackin is expected to accompany her aunt from Billings.

Mrs. McCrackin, who was visiting her sister in Washington D.C., left for Hamilton Monday immediately after receiving a telegram from Mr. White advising her of the critical illness of her daughter. A second telegram awaited her upon her arrival in St. Paul conveying the sad news of Miss McCrackin's death. Mrs. McCrackin will arrive home this evening. She had gone east to meet her son Wallace, a veteran of the World War who is soon to return from France.

Miss Helen McCrackin was a most highly accomplished and respected lady who is mourned by a legion of friends throughout Montana. She was born in Fairfield, Iowa, Oct. 31, 1880, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. McCrackin to Choctau County, Montana in 1883. Afterward they resided in Butte and then came to Hamilton, Dec. 31, 1894, Mr. McCrackin establishing the Ravalli County Bank.

Miss McCrackin graduated from Hamilton High School and was the first student to enroll in the first class at Montana State University, graduating with honors. She also was a student at Bryn Mawr, Wisconsin University and Chicago University. Miss McCrackin was a teacher by choice, a vocation she loved and honored. She was the Principal of the Hamilton High School when called by the death angel.

Miss McCrackin is survived by her mother, Mrs. Gertrude McCrackin, one brother, a soldier now in France and a sister Mrs. M.A. White. The Bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their great bereavement.
