CULBERTSON
Ardys Culbertson, eldest son of Ellis and Flora (Bellon) Culbertson, was born in Wayne County, Iowa on May 22, 1904. He passed on at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on March 14, 1986, at the age of 81 years and 10 months. He had been hospitalized for respiratory arrest about four weeks.
He farmed around Lucas County until 1948, after which he did carpenter work until he began to work for the Lucas County bridge crew in about 1950. He had lived in Chariton since 1956.
He was united in marriage on January 14, 1928 to Winona Williams. To this union eight children were born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winona; one infant daughter, Virginia; one grandson; his parents; five brothers; and one sister.
He was united in marriage to Lois (Black) Ratliff on February 3, 1967.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; five daughters, Lois Stalter of Ogden, Violet Halferty of Humeston, Marjorie DeBok of Chariton, Norma Porter of Peru, and Geraldine Snodgrass of New Virginia; two sons, Harold and Glen, both of Indianola; five sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three step-children; five step-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Russell and Louise McCloney, both of Osceola; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Services were held Monday, March 17, 1986 at 1 p.m. at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Emery Holzworth officiating. Interment was in the Goshen Cemetery.
