UTE, Iowa -- Shirley Aronson, 80, of Ute died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Edward Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak, Iowa. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.
Shirley Aronson was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Mary (Hanson) Ulven. She attended country school at Jordon 1 and graduated from Soldier High School with the class of 1946. In 1948, she graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and taught school in Mapleton, Iowa, until 1951.
On June 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Aronson in Soldier. They owned and operated Aronson-Buenz Hardware Store in Charter Oak until 1956. At that time, they moved to Fort Collins, Colo. After graduating from Colorado State College in 1964, she taught school until retiring in 1988. Robert died in September 1981. She moved to Ute in 1994.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, St. Paul's LCW, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, playing cards, traveling and coffee with friends. She took great pride in her Norwegian heritage and served as a devote Christian.
Survivors include a daughter, Trudy Aronson of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Jacob and Nathaniel Adams; two brothers, Marvin Ulven of Paullina, Iowa, and Orvan Ulven of Soldier, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd "Swede" Aronson and his wife, Carol of Ute and Frank Whitney of Ventura, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Adams; her parents, Harold and Mary Ulven; and a sister, Lois Whitney.
