Joe P. "Slick" Slichenmyer, 83, of Olney, Illinois passed away at Sunday, January 17, 2010 at his residence.
Joe was born January 2, 1927 in Richland County, IL the son of Charles O. and Verna E. (Fleming) Slichenmyer. He married Kathy Hayes April 5, 1981.
Joe was a bricklayer with 58 years in the trade and held the office of Secretary, Treasurer and Business Agent for Local 54 for 19 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and proudly served his country in Okinawa in WWII.
Joe was a member of the Olney Free Methodist Church. He was a life member of both the American Legion in Olney and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lawrenceville. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Lawrenceville and the Eagles Lodge in Olney, as well as, former member of the Petroleum Club, Masons and Shriners.
Joe's love of life with his joking, teasing and generally aggravating everyone in his fun loving way has given him an eternal place in the hearts of all who have known and loved him.
Joe is survived by his wife, Kathy Slichenmyer; one son, Jerry (Sylvia) Slichenmyer; grandsons, Alex and Eric Slichenmyer; one brother, Stanley (Wilma) Slichenmyer; one sister, Mary Ellen Semple; brothers-in-law, Jack (Pat) Hayes, Wilbuur Cummins, Bob (Dee) Hayes of Bridgeport, Jim (Sarah) Hayes and Mike (Sheila) Hayes; sisters-in-law, Thelma (Dan) Piper, Evelyn (Charlie) Ledbetter, Ellen (Chuck) Mortenson and Penny Hayes; thirty-eight nieces and nephews; seventy-six great nieces and nephews and eight great, great nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one niece, two great nieces, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
