He was born May 27, 1929 in Springfield the son of Clarence and Lena Allison Cook. He married Felicia E. Kanis on July 8, 1950 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on January 22, 2009.
Raymond was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1946-1948. He retired from Orscheln Trucking in 1986 and from CWLP in 1990. He retired to Arizona where he resided for 10 years before returning to Springfield. He was a member of Elks #158, Teamsters, and St. Francis Cabrini Church. He was a past member of Blue Ridge Club.
He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and brother, and for his love of motorcycles and NASCAR racing.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ron, Jim & Gary; two sisters, Trudy & Rita and his beloved dog, Buddy.
He is survived by three sons, John (Tish) of Dawson, Jim (Paula) of Edinburg and Joe Cook of Springfield; six daughters, Jean Marcelino of OH, Joann (Richard) Romonotto of AZ, Jane (Harold) Henry of Dawson, Janet (Tony) Stickelmaier of Cantrall, Juliann (Kurt) Spradlin of Riverton, and Jeannette Clark of Pleasant Plains; brother, Donald Cook of Springfield; sister, Carol Rhoades of Springfield; sister-in law, Marie Cook of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:45 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010 at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, IL with Reverend Richard Chiola celebrant.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospital Hospice Unit, 800 E. Carpenter St., Springfield, IL 62769.
