Marion Lester Thompson, 94, of County Road 450 South, died at 10:16 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving most of his time as a military policeman in the Philippines and Japan.
A lifetime member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America, he retired from Cosco Inc. where he was a mechanical maintenance journeyman.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Ogilville United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, reading, boxing, playing checkers, traveling and doing maintenance for family and friends.
He always had a special interest in his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and going to the events they were involved in.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Dereck Fields and Elder John Thompson officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Burial will be at Mount Healthy Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Russellville, Alabama, at 8:00 on July 27, 1916, Mr. Thompson was the son of Ed and Maggie Welch Thompson. He married Doris M. Fields January 2, 1940. She preceded him in death November 2, 2010.
Survivors include his children, Carol (Don) Williams of Columbus, Marian "Tiny" Thompson of Columbus, Terry (Pam) Thompson of Brownstown, Linda (Tom) Adams of Columbus and Jerry (Sigrid) Thompson of Brownstown; grandchildren, Stacy Williams, Ted (Susan) Williams, Aaron (Bretta) Thompson, Kurt (Tricia) Williams, Matthew Thompson and Skylar Thompson; great-grandchildren, Baylee Pruitt, Josie Pruitt, Shelby Stahl, Alex Williams, Claire Williams, Jonah Thompson, Bridgette Blair, Brody Williams and Madelyn Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and siblings, Clinton and William Thompson, Lola Lee Quillen, Horace Thompson and Florence Pennington.
