MELINDA LAY, daughter of John and Nancy(Cook) Lay, was born in Grainger County, Tennessee, May 28, 1821, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eliza Burrell, in Davis City, Iowa, on Nov. 4, 1901, after nine months of painful suffering. The deceased was married to William A. Hamilton on July 3, 1841, he having passed away nine years ago last June, leaving her a widow and the mother of 10 chldren, 3 sons and 7 daughters: and seven of those children yet survive the aged mother, who lived to be 80 years, 5 months and 6 days old; when she called her loved ones to her bedside and bade them a last good-bye.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 5th, after which the remains were taken to the Hamilton Cemetery north of Pleasanton and laid by the side of her husband to await the resurrection.
