Chris, named for great grandfather, Christopher Hartman, was the second son of David Arnold and Delilah Decker. He married in 1890 to Susan Sears , one of 14 children of David and Margaret Morton Sears, and whose sister Emma married his brother Ross. He farmed at Smyrna, Harrison Co., Ohio, on a piece of land that bordered that of his brother, David, and was across the fields from his father and spinster sisters. After his wife suffered a serious stroke in 1936, he moved with her to the home of their daughter, Ethel, at Canton. His nieces told that he never left her side for the next three years. He died some 17 years later at the home of his caregiver in New Philadelphia, who was his son's sister-in-law. The last of his siblings to die, he was the father of Veda (Huston), Ethel (Smith), Kelly E., Wade W., Ralph A., and an infant son.
