Ross was the eldest son of David Arnold and Delilah Decker and married in 1895 to Miss Emma D. Sears, one of 14 children of David and Margaret Morton Sears. He farmed on a place northeast of Freeport where they both died. Ross and Emma had no children. In his last years he was assisted by a local woman who bilked him out of much of his money and many of his possessions. After Ross died, she was nowhere to be found.
