Clifford "Tarz" Aichele
October 16, 1929 – January 2, 2011

Lifetime area resident, Clifford "Tarz" Aichele, 81, died January 2, 2011, after an extended illness, at his home in Walla Walla, Washington.

The fifth of thirteen children, Clifford was born October 16, 1929, on the farm near Robinson, North Dakota, to Jacob and Amelia (Eckert) Aichele. The family moved to this area when he was five years old and he attended school in Touchet. He served in the US Army as a medic in Korea during the Korean Conflict from February 28, 1951 to November 28, 1952 He married Lois West and they had two sons. He drove truck and was a mechanic originally for General Foods, remaining with the food processing company as it was sold to Birdseye, D & K and ultimately Stockley's. On April 15, 1989, he and Barbara Hoover married in Walla Walla. He retired from Stockley's in 1990.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and playing the slot machines in Reno.

Clifford is survived by his wife, Barbara, at their home: two sons: Gary (Dixie) Aichele and Gerald (Monti) Aichele both of Walla Walla; three step-daughters: Diane Simon of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; Judy (Gary) Fairbanks and Jeanne (Bob) Nation both of Yakima, Washington; three sisters: Lillian Sanford of Meridian, Idaho; Leona Johnson of Walla Walla; and Florence Adams of College Place; six brothers: Hubert, Alfred, Jake, Jr., Frank, Ervin and Larry Aichele all of Walla Walla; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Emil, Walter and Harry Aichele.

Family and friends are invited to a luncheon potluck to celebrate his life at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Golden West Estates Clubhouse. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity of donor's choice through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington 99362.
