The Times-Tribune Fri Feb 04, 2011

CORBIN — By Becky Killian / Managing Editor

A Lily woman died Thursday when the car she was driving was struck by a CSX train, according to Trooper First Class Walt Meachum, public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 10-Harlan.

Marna K. McCulley, 64, was crossing the railroad tracks on Arkle Hollow Road in Gray when police said the red Monte Carlo she drove was struck by an oncoming train.

The train, which struck the passenger side of McCulley's car, stopped roughly about an eighth of a mile from the crossing.

The crossing has no signal lights. Signs warn drivers of the two-track crossing.

McCulley was pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins. An autopsy was expected to be completed in Frankfort today, Blevins said.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jay Sowders continues to investigate the crash.

Other rescuers assisting at the scene were Knox County EMS and West Knox Volunteer Fire Department.
