From Polish records Stephen was born at Nierostowo, Konarzyny, Chojnice, Pomorskie, Poland and baptized at Konarzyny Parish a few days later. He immigrated about 1888 with his parents and siblings.

Steve married Valeria "Vina" Rutz on 1 May 1899, presumably in the new Flensburg Polish Catholic Church as it was called then.

Steve and Valeria farmed just south of Flensburg. They had 22 children, almost all of whom lived to adulthood.
