Martin was baptized in Borzyszkowy Parish during 1832 and his parents are listed in the Polish records as Joseph (Josephus) Meger (sometimes spelled Megier) and Teresia Tandeczka. Joseph and Teresia married during 1830 but Joseph died during 1833. His widow Teresia, with three children, married Mathias Ruca (also spelled Rutz) later that same year.
Martin was the half-brother of Ignatz Rutz (Ruca) also buried in this cemetery. Both the Rutz and Ruca spellings are found in the Polish records for the same families.
