She was born in the town of New Holstein on March 29, 1930, daughter of Edwin M. and Alvina Mertens Schmitz. She attended school in New Holstein and worked at Levernz Shoe Co. in that city from 1950 to 1979. Miss Schmitz was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein.
Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Willard Ninmer and Mrs. Jerome Reinl, both of New Holstein; Mrs. Carl Gebhart, Route 2, Chilton; Mrs. Gregory Schwarz, Route 1, New Holstein and Mrs. Melvin Hanke, Route 1, Kiel.
A funeral Mass was offered at Holy Rosary Catholic Church by the Rev. Ralph Hermsen, pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery.
