Paul was born in the western portion of present day Poland, then controlled by Prussia, as was his wife Suzanna (Susie) Droskowski (also spelled Drowskowski).

He immigrated during 1882 and first settled in Winona, MN. They married there on Nov. 14, 1887, and their first several children were born in Winona.

The family moved to Pike Creek TS, Morrison County, MN between 1895 and 1900 and thereafter farmed not far east of Flensburg, where they spent their adult lives. Several additional children were born on the farm. By the 1910 census Susie had given birth to 12 children but only 7 were still alive, not unusual for the times.

Paul's wife Suzanna, born September 1868 in Poland, and died December 14, 1922 in Little Falls, was also buried in this cemetery according to her obituary. But her gravestone was not found, possibly destroyed by vandals as happened with a number of gravestones. Their son Aloisius S. "Ole" Karpinski is buried there.
