Elijah Whaley was born Jun 6, 1844 in Sevier County, Tennessee. Elijah was the the son of Willim M Whaley and Mary Ann Ogle-Whaley.

Elijah Whaley married Sarah Ogle on April 7, 1867 in Sevier County, Tennessee. Sarah Ogle was the daughter of James Ogle and Rachel Huskey.

Elijah and Sarah Whaley had the following Children;

1.Mary A. "Polly" Whaley
2. Rebecca Whaley
3. Martha Ellen Whaley
4. Savannah Cordela Whaley
5. William "Bill" Whaley
6. Sarah "Elizabeth" Whaley
7. Idana Whaley
8. Clementine Whaley
9. Isaac Thomas Whaley
10.Joseph Jackson Whaley

Elijah Whaley owned land about a mile above the ranger house covering most of Tater Ridge. He also owned much of the river lands below the picnic areas on both sides of the river. Elijah is buried in his own family plot on Tater (Potatoe Hill) Ridge.

Elijah Whaley died July 6, 1926 in Sevier County, Tennessee. He is buried at Elijah Whaley Cemetery, Sevier County, Tennessee
